I tried a package of this dehydrated spaghetti thinking it was probably going to be something like what comes out of an MRE entree – in other words, barely palatable. I couldn’t have been more pleasantly surprised. It was very good, a hearty meal (enough for 2, or for 1 really hungry person), and if I hadn’t prepared it myself in the envelope, I might have thought it was home-made. The only tip-off would have been the short noodles, but even then some cooks like to break the spaghetti noodles up before they boil them.
Bottom line – I bought a couple more packs of Mountain House spaghetti for my go bag. If I have to be gone for a couple days, I might as well have something to eat that I really like and that isn’t heavy or hard to prepare.

Arriving at camp near Snake Indian River Falls, we stowed gear and hiked the extra couple clicks to the viewpoint overlooking the falls. An exquisite display of nature’s raw power! After cooling our feet in the river, we returned to camp for the Mountain House Spaghetti. This meal is rated a five because we’d actually consider eating it at home in a pinch. Tasty marinara, substantive noodles, and slightly chewy chunks of beef. The only thing lacking is garlic bread and a side of asparagus. We’ve had this meal many, many times now, and enjoy it every time. Don’t buy just one.

This was the first freeze dried food I’d ever tried besides ice-cream when I was a kid. I’m planning a thru-hike of the JMT this fall and I’ve begun experimenting with freeze dried foods and other options I might take to get a taste of home out in the wilderness. This would definely do it. I think I’ll take a few of these along and place at resupply points so that I can have the taste of a home cooked meal out on the trail.
