“Liz Cheney says she’s voting for Harris,” The Hill noted Wednesday, reporting on the former Republican congresswoman’s announcement during a “Defending Democracy” conversation at Duke University’s Page Auditorium.
“[A]s a conservative, as someone who believes in and cares about the Constitution, I have thought deeply about this, and because of the danger that Donald Trump poses, not only am I not voting for Donald Trump, but I will be voting for Kamala Harris,” Cheney declared to an audience that erupted in cheers and applause.
Considering Harris has been hostile to the Second Amendment throughout her political career and represents an existential threat if she should be elected, it’s impossible to view Cheney’s abandonment of gun owners as anything but a complete betrayal. Consider what she convinced the National Rifle Association to tell its members she stood for just four years ago.
“YOUR VOTE DEFENDS FREEDOM! – VOTE LIZ CHENEY FOR U.S. HOUSE!” NRA’s Political Victory Fund announced in 2020, assigning her an “A” rating (“solidly pro-gun candidate with a record of support on Second Amendment issues”).
“The NRA Political Victory Fund (NRA-PVF) has endorsed Liz Cheney for the U.S. House of Representatives in Wyoming. Liz is a staunch defender of the Second Amendment and has earned your vote by protecting your fundamental right to self-defense from those who attempt to eradicate it!”
Compare their specific reasons for endorsing Cheney to what the candidate she now supports intends to do:
- Supports Right-to-Carry: “Kamala Harris says you’re an ‘extremist’ if you support constitutional carry.”
- Opposes Criminalizing Private Transfers: Harris intends to “expand background checks”/end private sales.
- Supports Veterans’ Second Amendment Rights: Harris supported Joe Biden’s veteran disarmament appropriations veto threat.
- Opposes Government Bans and Confiscation: Harris has declared “I continue to call on Congress and state legislatures throughout America to have the courage to ban assault weapons and high-capacity magazines, pass red flag laws, and make background checks universal.”
- Supports America’s Hunting Heritage: Give her this one, if by “hunters” she means “Fudds for Harris.” Like uberFudd VP pick, Tim Walz.
Cheney is one of the latest in a long line of turncoats and defectors to betray constituents who once supported them in order to stay in the public eye once it became clear that they have squandered all of their political capital and could no longer be elected dogcatcher. She and her fellow travelers, like the Lincoln Project Vichycons and establishment neocons, are actually worse enemies than the Democrats who are happy to exploit them, and if they succeed in their subversion it will mean the death of any meaningfully different Republican party.
Her and their actions are contemptible and unforgivable. If these snakes prevail, there truly will be no reason to vote (politically). But what they’re all forgetting is a critical mass of us will still have our guns regardless of anything totalitarian prohibitionists try to mandate.
And we will not disarm. Certainly not for frustrated, bitter, and vengeful liars…
