With the recent gun control hysteria, ARs are getting harder to find. As an alternative, don’t miss the Mauser – they are hardy, accurate, can be sporterized and customized, and are available in calibers for which finding ammunition isn’t a great challenge. Turkish Delight

I was recently given the chance to test fire a SARB6P. I was at my favorite gun shop and I was told basically to take this gun home and a box of bangs and report back. I was in the right place at the right time and I sure like when that happens. The SARB6P is a compact single-action/double 9mm from SAR (Sarsilmaz) Arms out of Istanbul, Turkey. SAR Arms has been around since 1880. This was one of several of the Rockledge Florida-based importer EAA ( https://eaacorp.com ) guns in the display case at my shop. The European American Armory corporation also imports Tanfoglio. The “sarby” that I test …

Go Home Piers Morgan

Don’t let freedom’s door hit you in the ass on the way out: MrColionNoir (or “MCN” as a lot of you that email me call him) was really riled up about this one… talking at seemingly 2x the normal rate haha. You can check out my past posts on Piers to see him in action on his talkshow. If you’re into White House petitions (I’m not) you can sign one here that deals with deporting him hahah. 104,000 signatures *not too shabby face* Rather than deporting him, I’d rather him stay in the U.S., but lose his celebrity status.  That way he’d have to find a way to deal with gun culture, or be mocked every waking minute …

The Toll Hurricane Sandy Took On One Man’s Gun Collection

A guest post by Jesse Ingall from the blog Ideas, Thoughts and Happenings. These firearms were brought in to be completely cleaned of rust and salt. They were flooded when the tide rose during Hurricane Sandy. They sat in salt water for a week or so. I ran a steel brush through the barrels a bunch. Then I attempted to run a patch through one of the barrels and the pitting shredded the patch. Butt plate of a Mauser. Before and after: You can really see the difference on the Enfield butt plate: I sanded, sand blasted and blued this 1911. The pitting was so bad that I had to sand the frame and slide. Turned out great I think. A rusted out side…

Hornady’s New .45 ACP +P

Hornady introduced a new load in the company’s young Critical Duty line of ammunition designed for law enforcement. The new .45 ACP round uses a 220 grain bullet and is loaded to +P pressures. From a 5” test barrel, the round makes for 975 feet per second, which works out to be about 464 foot-pounds of energy. The bullet is a specially designed FlexLock bullet that uses a polymer tip in a hollowpoint to help ensure expansion and prevent the clogging of the bullet’s cavity. Additionally, a “massive” InterLock band is used by Hornady to prevent the separation of the jacket from the bullet. Hornady introduced the Critical Duty line of ammunition in later 2011, and only offered 9mm and .40 S&W loads …

Quote of the Day – Empathy

“What kind of empathetic people exploit the occasion of murdered children and a distraught public as the proper time to ask for support of their agenda?”- Howard NemerovHoward asks a great question here at the end of his excellent piece. The answer? People who have no empathy for those murdered. Anti-gun politicians like Feinstein, Cuomo and their ilk do not care one bit about those killed. They only care about two things. 1. Doing what is politically expedient so that they can continue to hold power. 2. Disarming their constituents.

Winchester to move Model 70 production to Portugal in 2013

Winchester has recently admitted on its Facebook page that 2013 will see Model 70 rifles assembled in Portugal instead of South Carolina. Winchester states that the change will allow them to increase their output of Model 70 rifles to meet demand. Parts for the rifles will still be made in the U.S.A., but will be shipped to Portugal for final assembly and fitting before being shipped back to the U.S.A. for sales and distribution. SX2, SX3, and Model 101 over/under shotguns are already manufactured according to this model, so it must be more efficient than it sounds. Winchester aficionados already differentiate between pre- 1964 and post- 1964 manufactured Model 70 rifles. Will this change of final assembly point add yet…

Why I’m Not a Sheep

The call-in topic on the Squirrel Report from last night was “Why I am not a sheep.”Breda’s answer was excellent, which isn’t the least bit surprising. She was on a roll. You can listen to her here.I wanted to call-in, but didn’t get a chance since I was at my brother’s celebrating his birthday and then I stayed over and played Madden on XBox 360 and air hockey with the kids.I realize that I’m going to end up kind of piggybacking on what she said with this post, but so be it.I am not a sheep because I live in the real world. I am aware. Sheep …

WhenTo Call 911

There are lots and lots of people who dial the emergency number for situations that clearly are not emergencies.  This article discusses when an urgent response is called for, and when you should call the non-emergency numbers to be connected to fire, ambulance, and police services. The author knows their stuff.  An excerpt…. “An open or unsecure door or window that indicates a burglary has possibly occurred should be considered a crime in progress. You should call 911 and wait outside in a safe location until police arrive and secure the property.” That is wisdom.

Taser, Taser, Burning Bright!

We owe a debt to knirirr for kindly giving us a heads up to this French language news article.  (English translation here.) A suspect tried to escape from French custom officials, only to have chemical mace applied along with a Taser.  A freak combination of tear gas and the Taser caused the man’s clothing to burst into flame! The burning man was taken to a local hospital for treatment, but managed to finally give the cops the slip.  He is still at large. I’ve never heard of something like this happening, but I suppose anything is possible.  I wonder what made up the ingredients of that French tear gas?
