I purchased this directly from Bad Elf before Amazon stocked them. I am tired of dealing with large companies and their customer service agents, so I chose Bad Elf from previous experience with my original model purchase that I reviewed in November 2010 on Amazon.com.

This product is a different, more sophisticated animal. Some users of the little elf had connector and clunky charge cable issues, and this Pro unit solved both elegantly with Bluetooth. People are amazed when I tell them how many simultaneous connections it supports. I’ve tried it with my two iDevices, and it works as advertised. Pairing is fast, and “bird” acquisition indoors and out is quick and amazing.

Bad Elf’s app has vastly improved the utility of both devices, especially testing without needing to open a mapping app. Some companies have a product requiring support of an app or desktop software. My experience is some products are wonderful but the software is terrible. Bad Elf’s hardware and software is well-matched with an intuitive user interface.

I have not had an issue with the USB connector cover popping open; but, I travel with my Pro in a little nylon camera case. I do not have an issue with the built-in battery because I know I can get support if I need it.

Again, I am pleased because the product works, it is easily updated, and Bad Elf’s competent technical support staff is readily accessible via email, online workorder system and social media.

I really like the Bad Elf Pro – I really didn’t want the Bad Elf (non-pro) because I was worried it would break it, or worse, break my iPad. I use the Bad Elf Pro for flying – and it is an awesome product.

    My only two complaints are:

    1) The USB cover/protector should stay in place better. (Bad Elf has e-mailed me and said that because it is water proof, you have to push real hard and it stays in place. I have tried this and it does seem to stay in place longer/better but it eventually works its way out).

    2) The GPS logger should stay on if you turn it on and then shut off the device (When you turn the device back on – the GPS data logger is off by default – would be nice if it automatically turned back on upon startup.

I’ve done a video review of this product here: […]

    Amazon Verified Purchase(What’s this?)
This review is from: Bad Elf 2200 GPS Pro (Black/silver) (Electronics)

I purchased this to use with ForeFlight on my iPad, and it works great. Connects via bluetooth within a few seconds. I only had a problem once getting ForeFlight to recognize the location data, and restarting the iPad fixed it.

The GPS unit on its own is actually pretty nice as well. It locks onto the GPS signal quickly (unless I’m in my basement, but even then it locks on after a minute or two). The cover for the charging cable is easy to remove, but seems like it will stay put even if I’m running with it.

I’m a little surprised it only came with a car charger, I would have preferred a wall charger as the battery life should take me through a full day just fine.

One other thing: I like that you can record tracks with just the device! This feature will come in very handy during mountain biking season. It is a little tedious to import those tracks as you have to email them to yourself, but once they’re on your iPad/iPhone they’re easy to import into whatever app you need. I was able to import tracks into Cyclemeter very easily.

All in all I’m glad I purchased this, and would recommend it.
