I ordered this antenna for my base and I must admit that I was impressed with this antenna performance overall. I am a licensed ham radio operator and FCC GROL holder, so I can say I know a thing about radios and antennas. BTW I also forgot to mention I am an RF engineer by trade 🙂 I have made plenty of antennas in my day so I am not one of these guys that go around saying everything they buy is great and the best thing since sliced bread. The antenna reviewed nicely from many sites I read and I decided to go ahead and buy one. The price cannot be beaten, I think I got it for somewhere around $40? and I was very happy with my purchase. I received the antenna fairly quickly from the time I ordered it. I opened the box and everything was properly packed and labeled. I realized the antenna was completely assembled and left nothing for me to do other than to connect the 75ohm RG-6 cable and attach to antenna and mount the antenna. The antenna came with a coupler / adapter for RG-6 to BNC male which makes it easier than having to buy one separately. I mounted this antenna about 25′ – 30′ up on my tower and I could literally hear repeaters on VHF/UHF that I previously could not hear with my GP-15 antenna mounted 90 feet high. I was not going to use this antenna for transmitting but mainly for my Yaesu VR-5000 and scanners. I liked the antenna very much but if I had one issue was with the fact the antenna seemed to be so flimsy. I think I was somewhat concerned about this until about a week after putting it up we had a terrible wind storm here in the Northeast area that brought winds over 60 miles and hour and the antenna was fine, didn’t even skip a beat. The irony is the lightweight, flexible design is what may have spared the antenna during the heavy winds? either way it was well worth the money and I was certainly pleased.

I bought a Radio Shack scanner antenna and it didn’t pick up much more than the one that came with the scanner. I tried this one and it picked up channels the other one didn’t get at all. Mine has been up a couple of years in some windy conditions and it is still ok. this is the antenna to get.
