I tested this quite a bit before I purchased. I wrote to M-Pro 7 requesting samples back in March of 2011. I did a saltwater corrosion test with a 5{660353129f8d892044c993645a1c75194301fec6786a7f617c15adde0b0011e9} saltwater solution sprayed on nickel-plated steel fasteners. I tested LPX against other products such as Weapons Shield, Otis Dry Lube, Frog Lube, BreakFree CLP, Mobil 1, and Militec-1. Everything except the LPX-coated fastener developed within 3 days of being sprayed with saltwater. I did the test in April, it is now the end of June and the LPX fastener has just started developing surface rust within the last week.

Because LPX is superior in corrosion prevention to anything else I have ever used, I took a small clean rag, coated it with numerous drops of LPX, twisted the rag to distribute the product into the fibers, and stored the rag folded in a zip lock bag. I now have the LPX equivalent to a silicone gun/reel cloth. I use this to wipe down exposed metal parts of my firearms after carrying or cleaning.

As for lubrication, I can notice no real difference between this and premium silicone-based lubricants. It is extremely slick, and I have had no jams on any of my weapons (shotguns, rifles, handguns) since using it. I have put over 300 rounds on one of my guns without re-lubricating or cleaning more than a barrel patch, and LPX has not broken down yet.

It’s only downsides stem from the fact that it is a liquid, and the downsides are only relative to the situation. They are:
    1) If you over-lubricate, it will migrate and/or run. This could be an issue for concealed carry. I recommend buying a bottle/pen with a needle tip applicator that will only release a very small amount of product. A little goes a long way. Either that, or simply wipe a film onto the surface. I have not noticed any staining or discoloring from wood or composite pieces that have been exposed to this product.

    2) It does leave a film. Again, this could be a problem if you are concealed carrying. But, this film is what makes LPX protect so well against corrosion.

I have not tried M-Pro 7’s copper remover, but LPX does remove copper from my barrels. I run LPX patches through after cleaning the barrel with Hoppes Elite GC, and can see the copper fouling on the patch. The only other copper remover I have is Hoppes Copper Solvent, and after using LPX the Hoppes does not appear to remove any additional copper.

All in all, this is now my go-to liquid L/P, and copper remover.

I think this is a great oil to use for your gun. It has a slightly greenish color to it so it helps to see where you put it. It also is fairly viscous. It tends to stay in the area I put the oil on and not just run off right away. It also has some staying power too I’ve noticed. The lube is still present on the slide rails after putting 200+ rounds through the gun. The gun is ultra smooth too after a few drops here and there. I also use a little to coat the metal parts on the outside of the gun and seems to be pretty tenacious stuff. Will buy again.

This is primarily a lubricant for your firearm. Generally you will use Hoppe’s No. 9 cleaner for the barrel, and this M-Pro 7 LPX for the rest of the firearm. I particularly like to use it liberally for high-duty moving parts, such as the action slide rail of a semi-automatic pistol, e.g. Colt 45 1911A1 or Beretta 92FS, to name two examples. Highly recommended. RJB.
