  1. I keep thinking of something else after I post. lol. I was thinking of canning what we call Italian potatoes. Basically potatoes cooked with Italian dressing plus extra vinegar. I’ve not looked it up but it would be something we could open up and serve. Ever canned potatoes other than? plain?

  2. Oh, several of my jars are now cloudy from canning potatoes. Do you? have a way to prevent this or a way to clear those jars?

  3. I bought a 50 bag of little red new potatoes earlier this year. Canned a lot and dehydrated some. Used all the? canned potatoes already. So worth the time. It’s still hot during the day here. Hope to start canning again soon. Good vid.

  4. Hi Rhonda! One thing I left out of the video is that after a few days, the water in your jars will often turn a little cloudy with leached starch from the potatoes themselves. How cloudy? depending on how long you pre-cook your potatoes. The less you cook your potatoes pre-canning, the cloudier the liquid in the jars will be. However, the more cooked your potatoes are pre-processing, the mushier they will be, so it’s a trade off. Anyway, cloudiness DOESN’T mean your potatoes aren’t good!

  11. Potato soup recipe…..YES! The first thing I canned was potatoes and I used? the water I boiled them in. It did get cloudy with starch after about a week. I am assuming that it is still safe to eat although it isn’t as pretty on the shelf. Does using iodized salt effect the flavor of the food or is it just the appearance? I hate to waste anything I canned just because it isn’t pretty.

  12. Earlier the fall I canned in quart jars.(couldn’t pass up? on the deal $10 for 50lbs) Our family loves them, so much that I’ll need to do another batch while their still affordable. I bought the white spuds so I could skip the peeling step making sure they were free of any dirt or debris. Great video… thanks to you & your girls!

  15. I do it to make it? more palatable, but also incase there’s any green spots in there, the cooking will help make those peels less toxic. Never want to feed chickens or pigs (or humans for that matter) any part of a potato that’s green or greenish. Right now, they are snacking on the Halloween pumpkins. : )
